    Clearance Sales

    Hi:

This is the time of the year for clearance sales. Don't only look at the clothes on clearance for 90% off at K-Mart, but cosmetics and personal items too. I purchased $120 in cosmetics, name brands at Target, paid $20, $10 of which was a gift card I got for transferring an RX that cost $6. I used $1 and $2 coupons on the cosmetics. Some of the Revlon Nail Polish was $.97 and the $1 coupon covered that cost. CVS also had the Revlon Nail Polish on sale, got it for $1 with their in-store coupon and the $1 coupon I had.

The discount drug stores, Fred's in SC, Walgreens in SC, had Old Spice Deodorant 3.5 oz. size, not the smallest size, for $.62, retail $2.69. I stocked up. They also had Sure deodorant for $1.29 which rang up at $.70 at the register. I had a $1 coupon for which she gave me full value as I purchased other items. Since more than one store had these items on clearance, it appears they were a mgf's clearance, may be due to a change in packaging or size.

    Shopping Genie

    Hi Grandpa Terry

I've sent you one of these before but I'm not sure if you got it.  This is a shopping genie.  You might say if a person is on a budget what on earth are they doing shopping.  There are things that we purchase every day and the Shopping genie is a tool that helps you find the best prices from coupons to restaurants, auctions to super sales that are hidden on the net on a specials page that you or I might not think to look on it will even direct you to forums that have specials.  I could tell you of some of the deals I've found if you wish to ask me.  This shopping genie is free and it does not track or keep any info on you so in your busy life and for the sake of those you are helping to make ends meet give it a try for yourself.  www.mymarketinggenie.com

Hope to talk with you soon

    Subscriber Tip #3
    Pay Yourself

Budgeting is a fun thing, but can feel like a restriction. One thing I always have done is to budget from each paycheck a certain percentage to "pay myself." This is taken right out, before seeing it and immediately goes into savings.

Tip #43 - Question - If your paychecks are never the same, how can you set up a workable budget?

    Answer

It's extremely difficult to prepare and maintain a budget when your paychecks vary from payday to payday.

In my Budget and Bill Organizer I talk about averaging your expenses like your phone and electric bills that vary from month to month. The same principle can be used to average your income.

To learn exactly how this is done just visit the below link and read the article:

    Health and Beauty Tips

    11. For great lotion, mix one-part lotion with one-part vaseline. It works better than plain lotion, and, depending on the cost of your lotion, you can stretch its value.

    12. Remove gum from hair with nail polish remover, then shampoo.

    13. To prevent hair pins from falling out, bend one prong in a "V" about halfway up and insert in hair. It will stay.

    14. To keep Cold Cream from spoiling and to maintain its freshness, keep it in the refrigerator. Plus it is so cool!

    15. Old lipstick tubes, thoroughly cleaned, are great for purse-sized pill boxes or for pins.

    Special Recipe
    Parmesan Chicken

1/2 cup instant potato flakes (garlic ones are great)
    1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
    1/4 cup margarine, melted
6 pieces of chicken - thighs, drumsticks or breasts
    Salt and pepper to taste

Melt margarine in a baking pan, 9x13 or jelly roll. Place potato flakes and Parmesan cheese on sheet of wax paper. Roll chicken in melted margarine, then into potato flake mix. Lay the coated chicken back into the pan that you used to melt the margarine. Season and bake at 350° for 1 hour.

    Welcome to The Budget Stretcher!

    Rolling Back Rate Hikes

If you were one of the lucky ones that had their credit card interest rates raised just before the new CARD regulations became law, there may be hope.

ConsumersUnion.org has urged the Federal Trade Commission to consider new regulations to require credit card companies to roll back these unfair rate hikes.

“Last year’s shameful frenzy of credit card interest rate spikes has saddled millions of Americans with high cost debt, including many consumers who always paid their bills on time,” said Lauren Bowne, staff attorney for Consumers Union. “The Fed should undo that damage by requiring banks to lower interest rates for customers who were treated unfairly before the new credit card protections went into effect.”

    Make Money Selling With PayPal

Have you ever wanted to sell something on the internet but didn't know how to receive payment for your stuff?

Selling on the web is becoming more and more popular everyday.  It is just common sense that you can reach a lot more people to buy on the web than you can using more traditional advertising like newspapers.

Take a look at Ebay.  At any one time literally millions of items are listed.  These aren't all businesses that are listing.  Although I don't know the exact figures, I would say that most are from individuals that are looking to make some extra money. Most sellers use PayPal.

If you have something to sell you can always accept personal checks or money orders, however, this has it's own problems.  The main problem is that you aren't sure a personal check is not going to bounce.  Both take a lot of time and many people that say they are going to send a check or money order never do it.

The best way to sell anything on the internet is to accept credit cards or online checks.  These payments are instant and you have the money in your account within minutes.  With PayPal the security of these payments is guaranteed making the buyer much more comfortable ordering what you are selling.

The biggest benefit to PayPal is that it doesn't cost you a cent to join and there are no monthly fees for sellers.  You only pay a small percentage of the purchase price (normally 2.9% + $.35) when you sell.  This is way below what it would cost you to have a regular credit card merchant account.

I have been using PayPal at Budget Stretcher for over 5 years and have never had a problem with them.  They make it easy for me to sell and with the low fees I can pass those saving on to my buyers.

If you want to learn how you can start selling on the internet or Ebay I have provided a link below that gives you the details.  You will need to open a Business Account.  This is absolutely free.

    https://www.paypal.com/us/mrb/pal=8CPU5MM49B4KE

Effective immediately, I will be listing up to 3 classified ads in the newsletter for anyone that opens a Business Account through PayPal using the above link.  This will get your item viewed by over 23,000 subscribers.

All you have to do is send me the verification email that you will receive from PayPal and include the information about the item you want to sell.

I will verify it and will let you know what you have to do.

    https://www.paypal.com/us/mrb/pal=8CPU5MM49B4KE

This is your chance to make a little extra money.

    Grandpa Terry,

I have been receiving The Budget Stretcher for sometime, but haven't had time to look at them. I have been saving them in a folder to sit down and start reading and using what I need.

For some reason, I opened the current newsletter. I read the article about Advanced Care Plans. I copied 6 copies of them for my husband and I. We are in our 50's, but one never knows when you will need these documents in place. For some reason, God deemed it necessary for me to read the article and to make copies. I certainly hope neither of us need them for a long time, but I know that I have mine filled out and am going to get a witness to sign mine just in case.

Of course I have a busy day ahead of me, but I am going to sit down this evening after everyone is settled for the night and start from the first issue of The Budget Stretcher and take care of what ever business needs taken care of in each and everyone for as many nights as it takes me. Thank you for providing such a great service to those of us who receive your newsletter.

Have a safe and enjoyable Sunday.

    Sincerely,
    Terri

Four Recipes Using Refrigerated Crescent Rolls
    by Rachel Paxton

If you have refrigerated crescent rolls on hand, and are tired of having them as a side dish at dinner, try one of these recipes to prepare something different for dinner tonight.  Crescent rolls are very versatile and can be used in casseroles, as crusts, and even in desserts.

    One Dish Breakfast

    1 can crescent rolls
    1/2 lb. ground sausage
1 1/2 cups hash browns, thawed
    3 eggs
    1/2 c. grated cheddar cheese

Spread crescent rolls on cookie sheet. Seal all seams and curl up edges slightly. Pour over rolls the drained and cooked sausage, then uncooked hash browns, beaten eggs, and cheese. Season to taste. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 40 minutes.

    Cheesy Casserole

    1 lb. hamburger
    1/4 c. chopped onion
    1 8-oz. can tomato sauce
    1 pkg. spaghetti sauce mix
1/4 c. chopped green pepper, optional
    1 small can mushrooms, optional
    3/4 c. sour cream
    3 oz. mozzarella cheese, grated
    2 oz. cheddar cheese, grated
    salt and pepper
    1 can crescent rolls

Brown meat and onion. Add tomato sauce, spaghetti sauce mix and optional green pepper, and mushrooms. Salt and pepper to taste. In a 9 x 9" baking dish, layer meat mixture, then sour cream, then cheese. Place unrolled crescent rolls on top to make crust. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

    Veggie Pizza

2 cans crescent rolls, not separated
8 oz. pkg. cream cheese, softened
3/4 c. mayonnaise or miracle whip
    1/2 c. sour cream
    1 tbsp. dill weed
    1/2 tbsp. garlic salt
    2 c. cauliflower, finely chopped
    2 c. broccoli, finely chopped
    3 carrots, shredded
    3/4 c. shredded Cheddar cheese

Line bottom and sides of ungreased jelly roll pan with crescent rolls. Bake as directed on package until golden brown. Cool. Mix cream cheese, mayonnaise, sour cream, dill weed and garlic salt until creamy. Spread over crust. Press cauliflower and broccoli into dip mixture. Sprinkle with carrots and cheese. Chill completely before serving. Serves 24 or more.

    Cream Cheese Strudel

4 (3 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
    1/2 c. sugar
    3 egg yolks
    1/2 c. light raisins
    2 tsp. grated lemon peel
    1/2 c. melted butter
    1/3 c. dry bread crumbs
    2 cans crescent rolls

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Combine cream cheese, sugar, egg yolks. Beat at medium speed until well blended and smooth. Stir in raisins and lemon peel. Set aside.

Open package of rolls and roll out to 1/4 inch thickness. Spread with 1/2 bread crumbs and cream cheese mixture. Roll and seal end. Repeat with other package of rolls. Place on cookie sheet and bake at 375 degrees until brown and golden. Brush with milk before baking.
