Our city parks are great but charge over $100 to reserve a
picnic shelter. Normally, a picnic is a great, inexpensive way
to get together with friends and family without having to stress
over cleaning the house, having enough seating, etc. I recently
found out that our parks have several first come, first served
shelters and also, if a reservable shelter is not reserved, they
become first come first serve. Last summer we only had one
picnic because of the cost. Last weekend we had what we hope is
only the first of many for this summer - absolutely free!

    Grandpa Terry's Update

    Welcome to The Budget Stretcher!

I've decided to get the Bill Pay Calculating Form ready and try
to make it available this week.  I believe there is enough
interest to justify the time and expense involved now.  I
received over 200 emails saying so.  I'll let you know.

I'm having a problem with subscribers ordering my products and
not taking advantage of their 30% discount that's available to
them on the Subscriber Benefits Page.  If you are ordering
from me make sure to visit the below link:

I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that when my computer crashed
I lost all of my Subscriber Tips I had stored.  If you have a
tip you would like to share please use the above link to submit
it to me.  If I use it in the newsletter you could win the
Budget Organizer or the Calculating forms.

That's all for now. Remember, I really enjoy hearing from you
folks. If you have any comments, complaints, suggestions or just
want to say Hi, please send me an email to

Grandpa Terry's Tip of the Week

    I'll Show Them.....(Continued)

Last week I told you about how I filed bankruptcy to show a
finance company that I wasn't going to take their abuse and a
little about the affect it had on my credit.

This week I'm going to tell you a little more about that and
how my wife and I eventually realized we had to make a big
    change.

A year or so after I filed bankruptcy I lost my job. I bounced
around to two more jobs in the next few months. I was getting
tired of this on again, off again employment.

I had served 4 years in the U. S. Navy from 1964 to 1968. We
decided that I should go back in the Navy and at least have a
    steady job.

This did give us a steady paycheck but it wasn't much. We kept
borrowing money, missed payments and couldn't seem to work our
    way out.

I was transferred to Norfolk VA in 1978. When we arrived and
got an apartment we actually had more money coming out than we
had coming in, not including living expenses. I even got a part
time job through Manpower to earn a little money. This was our
    wakeup call.

The main problem was that I had drawn advanced pay to make the
move and it wouldn't be paid off for 3 months. The payments were
    huge compared to my paycheck.

We had 5 major bills that we couldn't pay and still have money
for groceries. We sat down and wrote each one of them a letter
asking that our payments be deferred for 3 months. To our
surprise 4 of the 5 agreed to these terms and added the payments
to the end of our contract. This gave us the breathing room we
    needed.

That was my turning point. When the advanced pay was paid off
we vowed to start making our payments on time every month and
make sure that we didn't get into that mess again. It took about
3 years to really feel that we had control of our money.

It was a tough 3 years. We had to cut back on everything. I
remember telling our kids that we couldn't afford things that I
really wanted to buy them. We survived!

I guess my main point of telling you about this is to show you
that I've experienced the humiliation of poor money management
and that, at some point, you have to make some big changes.

I hope you are not having the kind of problems I had but if you
are now is the time to start making those changes. It's going to
take sacrafice, discipline and a lot of work but in most cases
    it can be done.

    Grandpa Terry's Email

In your April 23, 2007 issue a subscriber said she had bought a
different color sock for each person. I did this when my boys
were small and that way they could fold their own socks and put
them away. Saved me many hours of sock folding and sorting.

This email was in response to last week's Peroxide tips.  Visit

I'd be very careful using peroxide in the above manners.... Yes,
it's cheap and simple, but not "healthy". It should be fine for
cleaning/disinfecting surfaces and inanimate objects, but it
"works" by DESTROYING live cells, so "soaking" body parts in it
can cause a great deal of harm. Think about it-- "antioxidents"
are the big thing in healthy diets because they counteract
oxidative damage; peroxide CAUSES oxidation.... It cleans
bloodstained clothing by bursting the red blood cells, and does
    the same to other cells.

Re: #1-- a swish or two is fine; "a few minutes" is overkill....
Re: #5-- pour it on, then rinse it off; it will kill the tissue
cells as well as "germs". It is used for deep/anaerobic
infections (like gangrene) because it's "worth" killing a little
body cell mass to get rid of the microbes. For "clean" surface
injuries, soap and water work just as well if not better. A bit
of anitbiotic ointment and a bandage will keep them clean.
Re: #8-- the reason the pain lessens is because the nerves are
    killed....
Re: #9-- See #1,5 and 8.... Dot it on specific lesions if you
want to try it, but again, rinse after a few seconds (NOT minutes).

    Hi Terry

This is the nicest unsubscribe letter I've ever seen...

I thought you just might like to know however that I just enjoy
the premium letter better than the free one and thought it was
time to get rid of the excess...

Thank you for all your help over the last few months, our
finances are now on track and looking good.

I have a budget going and have been sticking to it, to the
cent. All our bills and savings amounts are set up as Direct
debits from our accounts including school fees for the kids,
phones, debts everything. The only money we have access too is
our fuel, groceries and a small JIC (just in case) fund of a few
dollars every week. We actually have heaps of money in our
accounts now but it's all allocated to the upcoming bills and
just waiting for the direct debit to come out.

I took your advice and began paying just a little extra off the
credit card and it's coming down. Something else I do now though
is; I don't leave the house often because of my work but when I
do I have limited time so my rent needs to be paid over the
telephone, by putting the cash for the rent with the payment I
make to the credit card and then paying the rent via credit card
I have managed to save us over $20 in interest just in the past
2 months. We have a 55 day interest free card and paying rent
and payments each week means we are able to reduce the balance
and the interest. But and it's a big BUT, I do not however pay
the rent until I can see that payment on the card otherwise we
would go backwards and that is never going to happen again.

I have also found a great bank here in Australia who allow you
to have access to your own money via the Credit card system so
when I now purchase things online I use my own money instead of
credit. I believe you guys have had this for years but over
here... sometimes we are a bit slow...

Thankyou for all your help and keep it up it's great.

    Forever thankful Kindest regards

    Kathie

    Subscriber Tip

Many of us know about this program already, but here is a
valuable tip for those who haven't checked it out yet.

www.freecycle.org is the site to save tons of money. The
program is free, and basically is a recycle group. After joining
the site, and listing one item to give away (and who doesn't
need to get rid of some clutter their home or garage?) you are
welcome to thousands of free items each month.

This month alone, I've given away a freezer and 10 single file
drawers, and benefited from someone elses leftover garden mulch
and edging, and a stove for my rental property.

Log on and find the group in your area, sign up and begin the
process of saving space in the landfills with your unwanted or
    left over stuff.

Check out the site (www.freecycle.org) today, and let one man's
    junk become another man's treasure.

Cut S.O.S. pads in half. After using, rinse and store in the
freezer inside a ziploc bag. This way the pad won' t rust.
When you need it again, simply remove it from the freezer and
start scrubbing your pan! The pads last longer and cut the cost
    AT LEAST in half!

These Tips provided by The Frugal Shopper

Please show your appreciation for these great tips by visiting
    this site.

~~To stretch your shampoo pour half of bottle into empty
bottle, and add water to fill both. You have twice as much now,
and it will work just the same.

~~Free fingernail brush - When washing your hair, before you
rinse off the shampoo run your fingernails through your hair a
    few times. Then rinse.

~~Bee Stings - Remove stinger if there is any and dampen area
and put Meat Tenderizer on area. Just leave awhile.

~~Facial Moisturizer - Petroleum jelly makes a great
moisturizer. Wash your face and while it is still wet apply a
tiny amount of jelly. Continue rubbing in a circular motion
adding very warm water until jelly is spread evenly. Your skin
will be soft and non-greasy even in the winter.
