You know, as I get older and older I find fewer benefits to
this process.
There is one, however I would like to mention.
Once you reach the age of 50 you qualify to join AARP. At a
cost of $12.50 a year this card offers a number of benefits I
believe most folks can achieve some worthwhile savings on this
plan.
Call and get a quote--you may be pleasantly surprised.

Finding a convenient time to clip coupons each week is key to
being able to stick with it. If you try one thing this week and
it doesn't work very well, try something different next week.
Along with clipping them during one of your favorite TV shows,
here's a few more ideas that might help. you can clip coupons
while dinner is finishing up in the oven, while you're on the
phone with a friend, or as soon as the Sunday paper comes in the
door. What are some of your favorite times to clip coupons
during the week? Write me at michelle@grocerysavingtips.com, I'd

Grandpa Terry's Update
Welcome to The Budget Stretcher!
I've decided to extend the Special Offer for the Bill Pay
Management System until June 6, 2007. I have received several
emails from folks that don't get paid until the 1st of the
month and would like to order. So, if you haven't ordered your
Bill Pay system yet, there's still time to get it for only $3.95.
Here is the link:
If you would like to order the Bill Pay Management System and do
not have Excel Spreadsheets on your computer I have a Microsoft
Works version that you can order. It's a little different
because Works doesn't allow more than one form on a single page.
You would have to have two forms open to use the Check Register
and Budget Ledger but it basically works the same as far as
calculations and organization. If you are interested you can
use the above link to order and then send me an email at
Works version.
Don't forget about the 11 ebooks being offered by Tawra and Jill
I sent out last week. This is an excellent deal you won't want
to miss. I'm not sure when this Special Offer will end. Here's
that link again:
I guess I'll cut this short. I have to mow 5 acres today and
only have one of my grandsons to help.
That's all for now. Remember, I really enjoy hearing from you
folks. If you have any comments, complaints, suggestions or just
want to say Hi, please send me an email to

Grandpa Terry's Tip of the Week
Should I Buy A Fuel Efficient Car?
With fuel prices at an all time high there are more and more
people considering buying a smaller vehicle. That may be a
good idea if you drive 7,000 or 8,000 a month.
Let me run some figures by you.
If you have a vehicle that gets about 15 miles to the gallon,
you drive the national average of 1500 miles a month and are
paying $3.22 per gallon you would pay $322.00 for fuel each
month.
Let's say you bought a vehicle that would get 30 miles per
gallon using the same figures as above. You would be paying
exactly half or $161.00 per month. You would save $161.00
per month.
That's quite a bit of money but it's not enough to make the
payments on a new vehicle.
If you are in the market for a new vehicle anyway buying a
smaller, more fuel efficient car may be right for you but take
the time to sit down and do the figures before you buy just
to save at the pump.
Let me know what you think about this!!

I live in Zachary, LA near Baton Rouge. In one of your
newsletters I received, you talked about the SHARE program. My
brother participates in it in Florida and told me about it as
well. I was hoping you could give me some information on whether
or not there is a site near me. I have tried searching for it on
the internet but have been unsuccessful in finding it for my
area. It would be a great help as I am now a single mother of 5.
Thank You, P.

I am a volunteer for our church's Angel Food Ministries and
read the comment from someone who uses the program. One thing I
would strongly suggest is for those who participate in the
program regularly to purchase next month's order when they
pickup their current order. Most of our regular people do that
in order to save an extra trip to our church, and with today's
gas prices it any saved trip is a good idea! Also, please mark
your calendar with the distribution date, as we do have to
donate any orders that are not picked up.

Hi Grandpa Terry—
Thanks for your kind response to my last email. I was beating
myself up, and that isn't helpful. I just got paid and feel like
a millionaire, after having to squeak by for the last two weeks.
I will be very careful for quite awhile now. And I am thinking
about starting an emergency fund (yes, it really could happen),
however, we are still dealing with emergencies that have to be
taken care of right now and which are demanding what we would
put into a fund like that.
I can tell you this---a money "crunch" can certainly make us
appreciate what we have to deal with during a "normal" month of
expenses!! (I learned it the hard way.)

Hi Grandpa Terry,
We went to the drastic measure of using a company called The
Law Center in VT that was similar to Plan B. They did help us
pay down one credit card however they also had someone who was
dipping their fingers into our escrow account and went out of
business with over $3000.00 of our money and one credit card
unsettled. They insisted on us allowing them to take money
directly out of our checking account. Please urge your readers
to do research on this or any company that wants to "help" you
out of debt. They may just want to help themselves to your
money. This action had a very negative result on our credit
score. I'm not even sure research would have helped us.

I love to shop grocery sales. Recently, my husband and I
went to a grocery store that had advertised pork loins at
a good price. We searched the whole meat section without
finding the pork loins we wanted. Finally, we asked a
person who was working in the meat section about the pork
loins and showed him the sales paper. He (very nicely)
pointed out to us that that meat was available only at a
specific location. Because we really wanted the meat, dh
and I were willing to go to the other store but the man
told us that he would change the price on the pork loins
we wanted at their store so we wouldn't have to go to
the other location. We didn't ask for this but were
excited. Had we known that this was available, we would
have automatically asked for the sale price. So, speak up
if you're not sure. It never hurts to ask!

I have a beautiful river rock front walk. I has motor between
the large stones and every year I have to remove the weeds that
pop up between the mortar and stone. I have found that if after
I remove the weed I pour straight table salt in the crack it
kills anything that may linger in that crack and keeps me from
having to go back and remove that weed again. I also use small
very thin paring knife to remove the weeds. Then I take my leaf
blower and blow all the dirt from the walk, making sure all
loose debris is remove and the walk is as clean as I can. After
all this is done I then take cooking oil and pour the oil on the
walk. I use an old clean string mop and "mop" the oil all over
the rock. This seals the rock and it makes the rock look "wet"
and brings out the beautiful colors of each one. This took me
about 2 days to accomplish w/about a total of 10 hours. My walk
is about 15 ft long and 3 1/2 ft. wide. I don't "oil" the walk
every year but every other year. It does take about 4/5 days for
the oil to weather down so you can walk on it w/o tracking in
oil so be prepared to block it off. This cost me about $4 total
w/the oil and the salt and my walk looks wonderful!!! You can do
this on brick as well.

A VA Loan can keep High Interest Rates Away
In today's housing market there are a record number of

The VA offers many great benefits to those that have served our
country and are looking to purchase their first home. A
for veterans who are first time home purchasers with little
credit to poor credit to obtain a competitive interest rate. If
you currently have a VA Loan you may also look into a
that loan to help save you money with your mortgage to receive

SHOPPING TIPS
WHILE SHOPPING
~~Stick to what's on your shopping list.
~~Ask staff to help you rather than wasting time looking for
items or better deals.
~~Meat is a good source of protein but it's expensive. Cheese,
poultry, eggs, peanut butter, dried peas, beans, lentils, and
some fish are less expensive and excellent sources of protein.
~~Buy whole chickens. If you want only breasts, save the dark
quarters, freezing for later use. Buying breasts alone is very
expensive.
~~Buy locally grown foods; they are fresher, more nutritious
and ecologically smart.
~~Shop the sales! Take advantage of each store's loss leaders.
