    Keep Your Engine Properly Tuned

Fixing a car that is noticeably out of tune or has
failed an emissions test can improve its gas mileage
by an average of 4.1 percent, though results vary
based on the kind of repair and how well it is done.
If your car has a faulty oxygen sensor, your gas
mileage may improve as much as 40 percent.

    Subscribers Tip of the Week

Hi!  I have been a subscriber of yours for about
2 years now.   Here is my gas-saving tip:  when I
go out on errands, I try to bundle all the errands
I can into one trip.  That way I don't have to come
and go from my house.  I even take my running shoes
and stroller, and add a trip to the local forest
preserve for a workout.  I usually plan to make a
    big circle.

I keep the stroller handy all the time.  I frequently
go to a large shopping center which is sprawled out
over a huge space and is too far for my little guy to
walk.  I pop him in the stroller and that way I can
make it from one end of the shopping center to the
other without getting in and out of the van.  I also
walk to nearby destinations, like the convenience store
and the library.  This is also great exercise!

I try to time all my trips when there is less traffic.
This eliminates lots of idling waiting for stop lights.
And I just found out that my van has a setting which
will blow cold air without actually running the air
conditioner.  I use it all the time now!

Here is a site that tells where to find the cheapest
    gas in you area:

The guy at the tire store always tells me to check my
air pressure weekly.  Doing so not only preserves the
tires but saves gas as well.

Hope all these tips help someone!

    Grandpa Terry's Update

Welcome everyone to this week's issue of our newsletter.
A special welcome to all of you new subscribers.

With sky high gas prices eating away at our pocket books
I am dedicating this week's newsletter to Gas Saving
Ideas.  You will probably notice some duplication in
    the tips and articles.

We are fairly lucky in Southeast Missouri.  So far the
highest price for regular unleaded I've seen is
$1.98 per gallon, however, the most I've paid is $1.86.
Some parts of the US is paying as much as $2.50.

I know this won't make you feel much better but I heard
a report that fuel prices in the UK are reaching $6 per
    gallon.

I have noticed that the prices have declined a few cents
per gallon in the last week.  Hopefully, this is an
indication that the worst is over!!!

I have to tell you about something my wife and sister-
in-law did yesterday.  They each had several large throw
rugs that were getting pretty dirty.  They didn't want to
spend an arm and a leg to get them cleaned so they took
them to the local car wash.  Believe it or not, it worked!
The colors held and they were able to get all of the soap
    out.

That's all I have for this week.  If you know someone
that may be interested in subscribing to our newsletter
    just have them visit:

    All the best,
    Grandpa Terry

Question:  Since the Smart Card is new, are there
very many common places such as Wal-Mart, grocery
stores and gas stations at which it can be used?

Answer:  Smart cards can be used anywhere magnetic
stripe cards are accepted. The functions associated

Grandpa Terry's Tip of the Week

    Budgeting For Your Transportation

Transportation costs are taking a larger
chunk of your disposable income.  With gas prices
skyrocketing the amount you have to set aside for
getting back and forth to work could be as much
as 50% more than what you have budgeted.

Let me give you just an example of the difference
between paying $1.30 for gas and paying $2.00.

This example is for a vehicle that averages 18
miles per gallon assuming 1500 miles traveled in
    a month.

    1500 miles driven divided by 18MPG = 83 gallons

    83 gallons X $1.30 = $108
    83 gallons X $2.00 = $166

This is an extra $58 that has been added to your
    expenses.

Many of us travel much more than 1500 miles a month
which only adds to the impact this has on our
    budget.

Naturally, this extra money has to come from
somewhere.  If you have setup your budget properly
you already have all of your money directed to
a specific bill or expense.  So where do you get this
    extra money?

It's time for a budget review.  I know that most
of us believe that we have our expenses cut to
the bone, however, usually you can find something
in your budget that can be cut even further.

Take a close look at each category of your budget.
I have found that there are two expenses that
can usually be cut without too much impact on
your lifestyle.  The first is your grocery bill.

While clipping coupons and buying generic are
the obvious ways to reduce your food bill there
are many others.  Keep in mind that you should
always buy the groceries you need, even at the
    expense of other budget items.

The absolute best resource for reducing the cost
of food is the ebook "Save Thousands on Groceries
and Eat Great Food" by Lana Dorazio.  This ebook
will cost you $19, however, it will start saving
you $30, $40 even $50 per week on your food bill
immediately. You can find out how to get your copy
    at the below link:

If you would rather not spend money to save money
you can visit the below web sites to find ways to
    save on groceries:

To find other ways to cut your grocery bill just
do a Google search using the key words "save money
    groceries".

The next area where you can cut your expenses in
a big way is your Utilities. In some cases you can
save as much as 20%.  Find dozens of ways by
    visiting the below links:

Rising gas prices is just one example of why it
is necessary for us to keep our budget flexible.
Finding ways to keep your bills and expenses down
should be an every day challenge.

    Money Saving Tip

Check & Replace Air Filters Regularly

Replacing a clogged air filter can improve your
car's gas mileage by as much as 10 percent. Your
car's air filter keeps impurities from damaging
the inside of your engine. Not only will replacing
a dirty air filter save gas, it will protect your
    engine.

    Money Saving Tip

    Keep Tires Properly Inflated

You can improve your gas mileage by around 3.3 percent
by keeping your tires inflated to the proper pressure.
Under-inflated tires can lower gas mileage by 0.4
percent for every 1 psi drop in pressure of all four
tires. Properly inflated tires are safer and last longer.

    Money Saving Tip

Use the Recommended Grade of Motor Oil

You can improve your gas mileage by 1-2 percent by
using the manufacturer's recommended grade of motor
oil. For example, using 10W-30 motor oil in an engine
designed to use 5W-30 can lower your gas mileage by
1-2 percent. Using 5W-30 in an engine designed for
5W-20 can lower your gas mileage by 1-1.5 percent.
Also, look for motor oil that says "Energy Conserving"
on the API performance symbol to be sure it contains
    friction-reducing additives.

These Tips provided by The Frugal Shopper

Please show your appreciation for these great
    tips by visiting this site.

~~Before you buy something, ask yourself these
    questions:
    ---Can I live without this?
---Do I need it? Or merely want it?
---Do I already have something I can use instead?
---Can I borrow it from a friend or family member?
---How long will I have to work to pay for this?

~~To avoid impulse buys, imagine having to clean
    the item, or store it.

~~If you can, avoid the middleman.

~~If you need a ruler when you're out shopping,
remember this: a dollar bill is 6 1/8" long.

~~Make it instead of buying it.
