Kids can be so funny. One day last week I came home with a load
of groceries from the store and looking at the bags one of our
children said to their siblings, "Look, mom bought everything
that was on sale!" Oh my! Well, as I explained to them (trying
to contain my laughter), "No, I didn't buy everything that was
on sale, I just bought SOME of the things that were on sale;
just the things that we needed." I was tickled though; my
children do know me well. ; o)

what was there.

I've been using my Bill Pay Management System for about 9 months
now and I thank my lucky stars I have it. It's so easy to pay
my bills on time and keep an accurate account of my checking
account. No, it's not as pretty as QuickBooks or other software
but it's very effective and it doesn't cost much.
In fact, it only costs $3.95 and if you don't like it I will
refund your money for a full 30 days. Here is that link:
I just saw a poll at About.com that surprised me. Here is the
results of the poll:
Does Walmart save you money?
Yes - 29%
No - 62%
Don't know - 7%
I don't shop at Walmart - 0%
I've created my own poll with exactly the same question and
answers. You can take the poll and view the results at the
below page:

just surfed his site again and found some great stuff for as

Grandpa Terry's Tip of the Week
Pay On Time Or Don't Switch Credit Cards
I hear everyday from someone about switching credit cards to
lower payments and/or interest. Most have interest rates in the
25% to 30% range.
While lowering your interest rate by obtaining a no/low interest
credit card can be attractive, it can also hurt you if you pay
your payment late just one time. However, if you pay on time
every time this is a great idea.
Every credit card terms agreement I've read indicate that they
have the option of raising your interest rate dramatically if
payments aren't made by the due date. In fact, if you read them
carefully you will see that they can raise your interest rate
for just about anything.
I've written many times that I don't like credit cards even
though I admit they are convenient and if paid off each month
can give you some nice rewards.
Paying your mortgage or loan payment late can get you a one
time penalty in most cases. Paying your credit card payments
late can cost you thousands of dollars in extra interest over
many years.
I strongly recommend that you pay your credit cards at least
10 days before the due date if you are mailing your payment
or 7 days if you are paying it electronically.

Grandpa Terry's Email
Hi Grandpa Terry,
I was surfing the net for a low interest card and I noticed on
the creditcards.com link most of the cards state what type of
credit is required to obtain a card. Exactly what is 'excellent'
credit? Or "good" credit?
I realize the answer probably involves my credit score and
other factors-but I am considering obtaining a card with a very
high credit limit and transferring all of my credit card debt to
it and closing most of my other major credit card accounts. I
don't want to risk applying for a card that requires 'excellent'
credit if I only have 'good' credit by their standards....
I love your new site and even though I am only 42 years old, I
remember S&H green stamps and I still have a couple of items
that we bought with them.

My Response:
Hi Tammy,
I could give you a long answer about credit scores and what is
considered good or excellent but I would rather you read it from
the horses mouth, FICO. They put out an ebook that explains
everything about credit scores and it's free.
Please use the below link to download:
Understanding Your FICO Score
Please reconsider closing your other credit card accounts. When
you close the accounts your credit report will show that you
have a high balance on your one card and it will probably be
maxed out. If you leave them open they will show that you have
much more credit available to you and this will help your credit
rating.
According to Eloan, one of the top internet lenders, this is
the way credit scores break down:
Above 730 Excellent credit
700 - 729 Good credit
670 - 699 Lender will take a closer look at your file
585 - 669 Higher risk; you will not be eligible for the best
rates and products. Credit products may not be available.
Below 585 Credit options will be limited or not available.
Lender will need to consider other information in your
application.
Believe it or not, we used to shop at stores just because they
offered S & H Green Stamps!
Let me know if you need anything else.
All the best,
Grandpa Terry

My husband just retired & his insurance will end 9-30-07. He
will not be 65 until 4-10-08. Do you know of a reasonable
priced health insurance we can get until he is able to get
Medicare?
Thank you,
Laura
My Response:
Hi Laura,
Getting low cost health insurance is extremely difficult these
days. There are too many variables for coverage to give you a
specific company. However, there are sites where you can enter
your information and get online quotes for your specific needs.
Please try using the below link to shop for your insurance.
I hope this helps,
Terry

Subscriber Tip
My husband and I have always needed extra money it seems. But
long ago my sister-in-law shared this tip with me. She said if
she needed milk eggs, or just a few items for example, she would
only take enough cash for what the items cost and that way she
only spent what she had. I have followed her advise many times.
I thought someone else might appreciate this tip.

Subscriber Tip
One tip that has saved us a lot of money (and inspired
creativity) is to make sure that we eat our leftovers before we
buy anything else. Before we were always buying something fast
while precooked food turned furry in the fridge. Another plus,
the soups, etc. are more nutritious than what we were picking
up.

~~Always have trouble with that one roll of tape and finding
the end of it? Stick a button on the end, then when you use it,
just move the button.
~~Rub the pure cornstarch type baby powder into your pet's coat
prior to brushing/combing, if there are tangles or mats, it will
make them come out much more easily.
~~Tea makes a nice inexpensive, yet permanent stain for
unstained furniture.
~~Sprinkle cinnamon on aluminum foil and place it in a hot
oven, leaving the door open. As the cinnamon heats, the cinnamon
will permeate the house.
~~Spray the inside of a mayonnaise jar white. Store it in the
refrigerator as a hiding place for money or valuables.
