Subscriber Tip
Gardening tip....To save money and plants in cold weather
climates cut the bottoms of plant containers that plants come in
from the nursery and put them over delicate plants especially
rose bushes instead of buying collars at the garden center which
break. Mound with dirt both inside and outside the
container. You'll have beautiful perennials year after year.

Coupon Savings
by Michelle Jones
I have given you 4 great ways to organize your coupons over the
last few weeks, but here's one more (#5) I also do from time to
time. If you shop at more than one store like I do it can be a
big help to organize your coupons by the store. Particularly the
ones you want to use at a certain discount store, such as
Wal-mart or Target. Simply take your stack of clipped coupons
for the week and divide them up by the store you'd like to use
them at. This way, when you go to your favorite grocery store
you'll have the coupons you'd like to use there, when you go to
the discount store you'll have the coupons you'd prefer to use
there and so on and so on. If you have coupons leftover at the
end of the week you can either continue to keep them divided up
this way or organize them in one of the previous ways I've
mentioned for later use.
Save hundreds of dollars on your groceries each month, with
or without using coupons! Read more of Michelle's FREE

You may have noticed that I've changed the "Grandpa Terry's

advantage of it when I do. These are neat ebooks.
Here is how it works:
Click on the link in "Grandpa Terry's Trivia"

Grandpa Terry's Tip of the Week
I've had a few requests to reprint this tip I first ran
in our newsletter on August 2, 2004 so here it is again.
I've had a few requests to reprint this tip I first ran in our
newsletter on August 2, 2004 so here it is again.
Are You Poor?
What a ridiculous question. Of course we are poor if we don't
have any money. We are poor if we can't pay our bills. We are
poor if we can't buy all the things we want. We are poor if we
don't have what the neighbors have.
At Budget Stretcher I talk a lot about saving money and
managing your finances better. But, in my opinion the people I'm
reaching are far from poor. I hear from many of you every day
and you are courteous, helpful, and most important you are very
enthusiastic.
My American Heritage Dictionary defines poor as "Having little
or no wealth and few or no possessions." I want you to think
about that definition. No matter how hard up you are does that
really define you? Do you have little or nothing?
Most of you come to Budget Stretcher to solve your money
problems but that's not the end of the story. Why do you want to
solve them? Of course, you are tired of the headaches, annoying
phone calls, etc. but that's still not the bottom line.
In almost every case I hear about someone needing help with
their finances it's because they want to give more! They want
more for their spouses, for their kids, for their church, and
for their community.
Does that sound like poor people talking to you?
Let's put our money problems in prospective. You may feel that
you are being greedy by always wanting more. That's not the way
I see it.
If you are going to spend all of that money on yourself, then
some people considered that greedy unless you are the only one
that you are responsible for.
Odds are you are going to spend much of that extra money on
someone else. In other words you are going to give it away in
one form or another.
One of the first steps you should take on the road to better
managing your money is to ask yourself Why. What is it that you
really want. It's not more money, it's what it will do for you,
your family and others.
Very few of us are really poor. We have our family and friends
and those are priceless. Just look at what you have and you will
know what I mean.

Get Your Free Annual Credit Report
Editor's Note: While requesting my free credit report I
found the below information that may help you better understand
how long negative information remains on your credit report:
Even if an account has been paid, the credit grantor may report
the manner in which the payments were made. Missed payments and
other potentially negative items remain on the credit report for
7 years, with the exception of Chapter 7, 11 and 12
bankruptcies, which remain for 10 years, and unpaid tax liens
which remain for 15 years. Paid accounts may remain on the
credit report indefinitely, but generally remain for 10 years
from the paid date. Revolving accounts, such as lines of credit,
retail charge cards, and credit cards, are open-ended lines of
credit. If the status is 'current, ' this tells credit grantors
who may review your credit information that your account is not
past due. It doesn't mean that you still owe a balance, only
that you have credit available. The report also tells creditors
whether or not the account carries a balance.

Re: Catherine Lost cell phone
Saving those numbers is a great idea but writing them all by
hand can be quite daunting ( I have TONS of info in my cell
phone). However, I have Cingular and they advised me that if I
bring my cell phone in to the store, they will sell me a new sim
card (about $3.00) and replicate all my info from my current sim
card onto it. Then if my phone is lost or ruined (my daughter's
fell into a puddle) I can pop the spare sim card into a new
phone and I'm ready to go!

If you are participating in a prepaid college plan, state run
or otherwise, get very specific information about what is and
isn't paid by the plan. We completed a prepaid plan for our
daughter, and thought most expenses were included. Not so! It
turns out she received a partial scholarship and between that
AND our prepaid she is covered. If this had not happened,
though, we would have been under prepared and wound up with big
debt! These plans are excellent by the way and I highly
recommend them. Just make sure to "do your homework" to avoid
unpleasant surprises!

We get our paycheck every week. I save 1/4 of our
total Rent amount, every week so that I don't have to come
up with the whole amount on 1 week's pay. I also do this
with our monthly insurance payments. It has really brought me
peace of mind.

Organizing Coupons:
My favorite method for organizing and storing coupons is using
a small photo album. Most people have one around the house or
they can purchase one at any dollar store. I use index cards to
slide in the front of each page and label with a category such
as dairy, cat food, etc. I keep the categories in alphabetical
order. I find it is really easy to find coupons when I need them
and it's easy to bring the book to the store so I'm ready to
match my coupons with unlisted sale or clearance items. I have a
section in the back of the book labeled "swap", for coupons to
trade with family and friends. I also have a section labeled "on
deck" for coupons that I now I'm going to use soon or coupons
that will be expiring. I keep my online coupon sites in my
"favorite places" on my computer. At work we have a coupon swap
box. I bring in coupons that I won't use and get coupons that I
need.

Everyday Savings
These Tips provided by The Frugal Shopper
~~Before you buy something, ask yourself these questions:
---Can I live without this? ---Do I need it? Or merely want it?
---Do I already have something I can use instead? ---Can I
borrow it from a friend or family member? ---How long will I
have to work to pay for this?
~~To avoid impulse buys, imagine having to clean the item, or
store it.
~~If you can, avoid the middleman.
~~If you need a ruler when you're out shopping, remember this:
a dollar bill is 6 1/8" long.
~~Make it instead of buying it.
~~Substitute with what you already have.
~~Make sure you wear out what you already have.
