Subscriber Tip
One thing I do to save money on detergent is I wash all my
cleaning rags at one time by themselves. I don' t use any
detergent (they already have cleaners on them) and I dry them
with no fabric softener as this can adds streaks to things such
as windows. It saves on detergents and fabric softeners. The
cleaning rags always come out clean and residue free. The only
cleaners I use is window cleaners and an all purpose cleaner so
I don't worry about mixing the cleaners in the wash. I just
keep a bag beside the washing machine to put them in until I get
a small load.

Coupon Savings
by Michelle Jones
This tip is for everyone, but particularly for the grocery
shoppers that feel they don't even have time to open the coupon
inserts that come in the Sunday paper each week. Are you ready?
Okay, here goes… did you know that the total value of those
coupons is usually over $100.00 every week?! If I put a stack of
cash on your kitchen counter would you just throw it away? Of
course not, you'd take a few moments out of your busy week to
put that money away safely and use it wisely! :o)
Save hundreds of dollars on your groceries each month, with
or without using coupons! Read more of Michelle's FREE

Grandpa Terry's Update
(Quote - "Do It Now Before Your Future Becomes Your Past"
Grandpa Terry)
I want to personally welcome you to this week's newsletter. If
you are a new subscriber all you have to do is just sit back,
read and enjoy.
I have a special new sponsor for our newsletter this week. My
Grocery Deals.com can save you a lot of time on your shopping
not to mention a bunch of money. It's so convenient that you
will wonder how you did without it. Please visit them at
Did I mention it's Free!
Do you see the quote above? That's going to be the basic theme
for our newsletter from now on. I've been noticing that a lot of
people want to learn about better money management but very few
ever do anything about it.
Actually, my quote doesn't just relate to your finances. It can
cover a lot of different aspects of your life. Believe me I know
that time can get away from you before you get a chance to do
the things you want. Please don't let that happen to you.
Now, I hope you will stick with me for a minute. I'm going to
complain a little bit.
I know that one little newsletter cluttering your inbox
probably isn't the most important part of your week. I can
almost bet that you have many others to read.
But, you know what would take this newsletter to the top of
your list? It's hearing from the subscribers themselves. Yes,
subscriber participation is the key to making this newsletter
stand out from the others.
I know I'm a great financial guru??? but I only cover the
general aspects of money management. It actually gets kind of
drab sometimes. But if you hear it from somebody that is
experiencing the same money problems you are it's much more
interesting. It's even better when they tell you what they did
to solve the problem.
I remember saying in one of my first newsletters back in 2000
that the best information comes from the subscribers. It's still
true today almost 7 years later.
Please take some time to give us your experiences, ask your
questions, tell us your solutions or what you think would make
our newsletter even better.
If I can't fit it all in the newsletter I will put it on a web
page and link to it. Here's my email address:
If you know someone that may be interested in subscribing to
our newsletter just have them visit:
All the best,
Grandpa Terry

Credit Card Information
Confusion Rampant Regarding Increased Credit Card Minimum Payments
By Mike Killian, CardRatings.com Debt/Credit Management Reporter
***********************************************************
Grandpa Terry's Tip of the Week
I Don't Like Credit Cards
If you have been a subscriber to this newsletter for very long
you already know what I think about credit cards.
I know that there are many benefits and perks to some credit
cards and if you manage them right they can be very convenient.
By managing them right I mean that you never carry a balance.
I recently completed a Debt Elimination Summary for Paul that
included about $130,000 in debt including his mortgage, credit
cards and a car payment. From what I could gather he had just
obtained the mortgage on a 30 years note.
The result of the Summary was that Paul could pay off
everything in a little over 6 years by adding just $300 per
month to his existing minimum payments. No tricks or gimmicks were
used and I provided him with a month by month payment schedule
that he could follow to accomplish this.
He was extremely happy with this information but was
dumbfounded when I told him it would take 80 years to pay his
debt if he only made the minimum payments. He just knew this had
to be a mistake because his mortgage was only for 30 years and
called me on it.
Here is my response to his email:
First, this figure (80 years) makes two assumptions.
#1 - That you only make minimum payments on your credit cards
(owed about $6500)
#2 - That you do not use the snowballing method and use the
payments for something else when the bills are paid in full.
Just to give you an example, I ran your credit cards only and
it would take over 47 years to pay them off paying only the
minimum payment.
Most people think that their mortgage is their biggest debt and
once that's paid everything will be ok. Mortgages have a set
interest, payment and pay off date unlike credit cards. While
you may pay more interest on your mortgage you will by far pay a
bigger percentage on credit cards when you pay minimum payments.
Here's what Paul had to say about that:
"WOW!! That is amazing! I really didn't think my CC debt was
all that extreme - although I was worried about it! I can only
imagine what the vast majority of people's CC debt is!
This is a real eye opener - for sure! More the reason to cut up
my cards - and use cash only!"
I'm sure I will get some comments on this tip stating how great
their deal is with their credit card companies and all the
benefits they receive. If you don't carry a balance, you could
be getting a great deal. It you do carry a balance, the perks
"just ain't worth it"!
I would like for you to check how long you will have to pay on
your credit cards using the payments you are making now. Here is
a web site calculator by CNN Money where you can enter your
information and it will show you how long you will have to pay:
I recently started using a debit card issued by PayPal with a
Mastercard logo. It works just like a credit card but my
purchases are immediately deducted from my PayPal account and I
get 1% cash back.
I just bought a set of tires for my truck this morning and paid
$441.23 and got $4.41 back. It's not a lot but it will buy a
gallon of milk and a loaf of bread!! Best of all, no interest
charges. That could save me thousands.

I think cutting meat up with a pair of scissors makes a little
bit of meat (or vegetable, egg etc) go a long way. I have feed
my husband and myself on one chicken breast shredded or cut up
into bite size pieces for our nightly dinner and both of us
were full after adding other dinner items to it. I thought about
this while watching the oriental folks cut up and fix our food -
that a little does go along way when cut into bite size pieces.
Also a great thing to do IF DIETING as the brain tells the
stomach it is full after chewing your food up. If it is cut into
smaller pieces then you do chew more and take more bites with
your fork or spoon.
