    Subscriber Tip #1

While grocery shopping, you will notice that the outside aisles
of the supermarket are stocked with everything you need to
survive, with the incidentals in the inside aisles. Fresh
produce, dairy, lunchmeat, milk, eggs, baked desserts and bread
are all located on the outside aisles. Also most end-caps
contain the stock of the sale items on them. I shop on the
outside of the store first then poke my head down the other
aisles for something I have on my list. If I don't need anything
down that aisle, I don't go down it, otherwise I leave my cart
and fetch the only thing in that aisle and come back to my cart.
This saves me money because I am not going off of my list and
purchasing items I don't need. Next time you are at the
supermarket try this technique and see how much you save.

    Thanks
    Maureen

    Coupon Savings
    by Michelle Jones

Watch out for high-priced items!  Whenever you have a coupon
for an item that you normally do not purchase, but would like
to try, always consider the final price.  For example, if you
have a .50 cents off coupon for a new kind of cereal, and the
cereal goes on sale for a reasonable price, now would be a
good time to try it.  But, if the new cereal (or whatever
product you're wanting to purchase) turns out to be a
high-priced item, whether it's on sale or not, stop and think
if you really want (or need) to spend that extra money.  In
other words, if you have to spend $3.00 to save $1.00-for an
item that is $4.00 minus your .50 cents off coupon, doubled-
your wallet and your grocery budget will be a lot happier if
you don't use coupons like that!

If you would like to learn how to save more money with coupons,
including how to use them WISELY, how NOT to use them, and how
to FINALLY get them organized so you CAN use them, order your
    copy today!

    Grandpa Terry's Update

    Welcome to The Budget Stretcher!

Happy New Year!  I hope 2008 is your best year yet.

The Subscriber Tip Contest for December will expire on January
7, 2008. Please get your votes in. I will announce the winner on
    January 14th.

I finally broke down and wrote an article for publication. I'm
not sure how long it's been since I wrote the last one. You can
read the article in "This Week's Article Links".

My friend, Scott Bilker, also has an excellent article about
just exactly what a penny can do for you. Please don't miss this
    one.

For those of you that have been subscribers for a while, you
already know that I'm a strong advocate of the "Fair Tax". Over
the next few weeks I'm going to do my best to convince you that
the "Fair Tax" will benefit you by putting a lot of extra money
in your pocket. I choose this time of year because this is when
you will be gathering your W2 forms and other paperwork to file
your taxes. Under the "Fair Tax" you wouldn't have to do that
and everyone would still get a refund each and every month.

That's all for now. Remember, I really enjoy hearing from you
folks. If you have any comments, complaints, suggestions or just
want to say Hi, please send me an email to

Grandpa Terry's Tip of the Week

    Is 2008 Your Year?

I remember it well. It was 1978 and I had just been transferred
from Pensacola, Florida to Norfolk, Virginia. Well actually it
was Newport News, VA just across the bay. I had been assigned to
be the Personnel Officer for the Nuclear Powered Guided Missile
Cruiser Arkansas that was being built in Newport News and would
    ultimately be homeported in Norfolk.

At first I wasn't going to take my family with me because we
couldn't afford the move. Then at the last minute changed my
    mind.

We rented a townhouse that was about $200 more per month than
we were paying in Pensacola. Plus, I had to draw advanced pay to
make the move which had to be paid back within 6 months. By the
time we were settled we had more money going out than we had
    coming in, not including groceries.

Since I was only the third man to report to this
Precommissioning unit there wasn't much to do. I would only
report in once or twice a week.

I had to get some money somewhere. I started working for
Manpower Inc doing just about anything to get money for food and
whatever else we needed. Luckily they had enough work to keep me
busy but it still wasn't enough.

That's when it hit me. It wasn't that I didn't have enough
income, it was because I had too many bills and it was
completely my fault. How could I have let this happen and worse
yet let it affect my family the way it did.

I had just made Chief Petty Officer. That was my goal when I
enlisted. I was about to take over the Personnel Office of a 500
man ship that included counselling young sailors regarding their
money problems and I couldn't even manage my own.

I had to do something but wasn't sure what I could do. There
was only so much money. Next week I'll explain what my wife and
I decided to do and why I consider 1978 as My Year!

    Grandpa Terry's Email

I've really been struggling with the political spectrum of
candidates and trying to decide who I might support, first in
the primaries, then in the fall elections. I found a couple of
helpful websites that seem to be non-partisan. I didn't really
want to wade through each and every candidate's website and try
to dig up each of their opinions on things I find important. I
figured there had to be something out there to simplify this
    process. And sure enough…

    http://www.speakout.com/index..html - A sub-site of speakout:
based on your political views and then it matches you up with
political parties and candidates. I found this really helpful.

Another site is http://factcheck.org/. They are a nonpartisan,
nonprofit, "consumer advocate" for voters that aims to reduce
the level of deception and confusion in U.S. politics. We
monitor the factual accuracy of what is said by major U.S.
political players in the form of TV ads, debates, speeches,
interviews, and news releases. Our goal is to apply the best
practices of both journalism and scholarship, and to increase
    public knowledge and understanding.

    Hope you find these useful.
    Holly

    Suggestion:

Many 4h projects give children the experience of
entepreneurship that can help them make career choices. I have a
friend who raised a dachshund at age 11 for a 4H project and now
as an adult raises and shows mini-Dachshunds for a living. 4H
leaders can be very helpful with sharing and guiding a child in
activities that can lead to money-making endeavors.

    Subscriber Tip #2

    Hi Terry,

Two ladies from my church gave me this tip. It's the best. If
you want to remember to do something, throw a piece of paper on
the floor and leave it there. Every time to start to pick it up
it will remind you of what it was you had to do or where you had
to go. These ladies were sisters 84 and 87. They said they'd been
doing it for years and years. Merry Christmas,

    Love,
    Juanita

    Subscriber Tip #3

With the increased costs of gasoline to transport goods, almost
everything has increased in price at my local grocery and health
    food stores.

One way to make eating well more affordable is to freeze usable
portions of foods that will not be used immediately after
purchase. Don't let food go bad in the fridge, instead divide
foods into the portion you use for a meal and place in freezer
bags or freezer plastic containers to use later.

Another idea is to collect all leftovers into a larger freezer
container, and make soup every couple of weeks. Most of the time
the leftovers compliment each other and make a hearty and
    wonderful dinner.

Please show your appreciation for these great tips by visiting
    this site.

~~When washing dark clothes for the first time use cold water
and put salt in the water. The salt helps set the color. To
brighten dark clothes after they have been washed several times,
    repeat the procedure.

~~Black clothing tends to look brown after several washings. To
restore the black color, add coffee or strong tea to the rinse
    water.

~~Many garments labeled "Dry Clean Only" can be safely hand
washed using mild soap like Woolite and cold water.
