Avoid Mommy Meltdown

http://sites4moms.com/cgi-bin/go.pl?id=162

Have you had a stressful week? I have! But then they all seem to be that way these days. Is it just me, or do we moms have a bad habit of pushing ourselves to the end of the rope and then some? I know that we all want to be SuperMom and do everything perfectly according to that enormous to-do list in our heads, but it just isn´t feasible. We should all take some lessons in how to make time for ourselves to re-charge and refresh.

Dr. Phil McGraw regularly appears on Oprah and is about to launch his own show. Most of you have probably seen him at one time and many of you may have seen this week´s episode discussing this very topic. If not, you can visit Oprah´s website to see the basics and while you´re there, browse through the wonderful information and motivation you will find. I think that Dr. Phil´s advice is fairly “real-life” stuff that you can apply to your life.

The section of the site dedicated to Dr. Phil offers links to his various topics. “Dr. Phil´s Advice” offers a library of his opinions on marriage, family, emotions, etc. You will also find a link to Self Matters, providing exercises to help you find your true self. The section on weight loss provides a free 10 week weight loss motivation program.

Sticking with today´s issue, you will want to visit the advice on “Making Yourself a Priority”. This is where Dr. Phil offers his Four-Step Priority Plan for Mothers. It´s a fairly simple plan but it will help inspire you to make some time for yourself. This is something I really need to do since my batteries are wearing out.

A few other sites I suggest on this topic:

Emphasis On Moms - encouraging mothers not only as parents, but as individual women.

Mom´s Marriage

http://sites4moms.com/cgi-bin/go.pl?id=165

Mommy. Wife. Do you ever feel like those two roles are almost impossible to fill at the same time? Do you find yourself feeling so overloaded by your role as nurturer to your kids along with the million other tasks on your list that you never have time for a moment with your husband? So many times the stress of everyday life with children in tow is so great that we put our marriage building role in the background. Don´t beat yourself up if you are at this stage – it´s a reality. But there is hope. If we continually remind ourselves that marriage needs constant nurturing, then gradually we can change this feeling for the better.

MarriageBuilders is a great site to help whether your marriage is in trouble or if you just need some preventative maintenance. This site holds information from Willard F. Harley, Jr., Ph.D., author of the best selling book, “His Needs, Her Needs: Building An Affair-proof Marriage”. Even though he wants to sell copies of his book, this website is far from lacking in free information. You can view his Basic Concepts for marriage which are geared to help you restore and stay in love through all the struggles that marriage brings.

There is a huge section of Questions and Answers covering most every marriage topic you can think of. His overall approach encourages couples to work through the issues with an attitude that they can get through this together and lovingly. He encourages couples to face the tough issues straight-forward. These are the issues that so often divide and hurt, but he offers guidelines to sort through these struggles.

This site also offers a discussion board and other help resources. For anyone in a marriage - happy, sad or mediocre - I think it´s worth a visit.  So, go take a peek http://sites4moms.com/cgi-bin/go.pl?id=165
