Articles Medical Discount Savings Card Probably all of you are aware that the cost of healthcare has and is projected to continue to skyrocket, with many people’s insurance costs increasing over 35% between last year and this year, and some reports projecting rates to continue to rise even to 70%! Blue Cross and Blue Shield notified its clients this past summer that premiums were going up approximately $75.00 a month on a $550.00 policy and that they are also raising the personal and family deductibles so out-of-pocket expenses have risen sharply without an accompanying rise in services. Concern for quality and affordable healthcare is a reality for many Americans. There was an article on the news this past summer also stating that the US healthcare system is 37th in the world, because the cost of insurance puts it out of reach of so many of us. CNN reported that 43 million Americans do not have any health insurance, and that another 75 million Americans are underinsured, meaning they have serious gaps in their coverage, usually because of age or pre-existing conditions. Often times, people work for small businesses that do not provide health insurance for their workers, not because they don’t want to, but because they cannot afford to. Many companies which do offer insurance, offer it only for their workers, and the employees have to pay dearly to cover their dependents. Add to that the fact that in some cases, insurance companies are dropping people and groups and whole states, and we have a real dilemma for a lot of people. The good news is that there is an alternative that can offer at least a partial solution for people: a medical dscount savings card!! Many of these offer savings on services through its Medical Savings Program which includes Hospitals, Doctors, Vision, Hearing, Prescription Drugs, Chiropractic Care, Alternative Medicine, Long-Term Care, Air Ambulance/ Emergency Transportation, Legal and Tax Preparation Services, 24-Hour Nurse Hotline, and Many More! Members may access Dental care and Veterinary Services also. There Are No Claim Forms to fill out by either the doctor or member, No Age Limits, No Annual or Lifetime Maximums, and No Pre-Existing Condition Exclusions so no matter what the individual’s health status, they can be included in these programs and have access to providers at very affordable rates. This is not Insurance, therefore Everyone is Eligible! These programs contract with many of the largest PPO's Medical Network in the United States. Some programs offer reduced fee schedules and re-pricing of medical bills for its members. This program is best used with high-deductible medical plans, medical savings accounts, or as a supplemental program. This is a great program to complement Medicare for seniors. It is a godsend for those who are uninsured or underinsured through no fault of their own. The cost of a program like this can run anywhere from $10 - $50 a motnh for the entire family or per individual. Doctors and other providers in the network offer services at the same rates usually reserved only for insurance companies and major companies. These rates reduce the prices of services by an average of 48%, but range from 20% to over 80%. Rates for services which are already quite competitive, like office visits, are at the lower end of the savings spectrum while savings on the higher-priced services like surgeries and hospital stays have the higher-savings rates. While the average American does not often need the high-cost services, when they are needed, the large reductions are very welcome. I often ask people, would you rather save 80% of a $100.00 bill or a $10,000.00 bill?
