Articles Bathroom Basics By Judy Justice Why is it that you can't even go to the bathroom without the kids, the hubby or the cat wondering where you are? When the kids were little it was impossible to have a few minutes to myself, even in the bathroom! You know what I mean....disappear for a moment and all at once you hear. "Mom, where are you?" or "Hon, what are you doing?" Like....what else would I be doing in the bathroom with the door closed? After the kids were tucked in bed, I would run a nice bubble bath, pour a glass of wine, grab my book and take a long soak. This would usually be livened up by the cat who liked to walk around the top of our old fashioned bathtub....you know the type with the rounded edges? Kind of hard to relax when the cat is reading over your shoulder and you expect claws in your body any minute if he should lose his footing and fall in to the water! If I locked him out before I got into the tub, he would sit outside the door and meow until I climbed back out and let him in! Then, he'd flounce in with a dirty look for me and take up his perch on the edge of the tub while I tried to get back in without dislodging him. Well, everyone is gone now except the husband, we have another cat (who also likes to walk around the edge of the tub) so bathtime is a bit more relaxing. I now have a soaker tub with a wide edge! Take time to look after yourself, you'll feel better if you do your nails, shave your legs and give yourself a facial once a week. You'll look better too! Pamper yourself a bit every day no matter what is going on in your life. Make this a habit! Schedule some private time for your bath in the evening after all the activity for the day is over and the little people are in bed, at least twice a week. Have a nice, soothing, warm bath, add some bubbles, have a glass of water, juice or whatever! If you want to read, go ahead, or just relax and listen to some quiet music. Try not to think of problems, let that go for the day.,....RELAX. Time Management and Bathroom Priorities The one room in the house that should be clean and tidy is the bathroom. It's the one private area of your home that might be used by anyone who visits. Could be friends or maybe a repairman; but, how can you say "Sorry, it's just too messy, you can't use the bathroom today?" I know I've had to excuse myself when company called, on a few occasions (ok, maybe a bit more than a few) to run to the bathroom to make sure there was no dirty laundry or unmentionables lying around! Then I spent most of the visit hoping no one would need to go to the bathroom. They probably wondered about me though, as every once in awhile I would make a trip to the powder room where I spent a frantic few minutes cleaning everything that looked like it needed it. Usually by the time they left I had it pretty well cleaned and I was saying things like "Are you sure you don't need to use the washroom before you leave?" Messy is one thing, but the bathroom is one room that doesn't take long to get really dirty if you don't do a bit each day to keep it clean. The whole house can be a mess but, take it from me, you are going to start feeling a whole lot better if you make it a practise to keep the bathroom picked up and cleaned every day. Money Saving Tips and Tricks Getting rid of the clutter in your bathroom will save you time AND money. Cut down on the clutter and the the daily cleaning will be a breeze. The bathroom should be an attractive place in your home but don't spend a fortune for fancy cosmetics and personal care items. Do you really need all those cosmetics? You can only wear a few dabs at a time you don't need more than one bottle of foundation or face make-up. If it's something you wear everyday, visit the department stores and get make-overs. Don't buy anything until you find the one you like best. (Be firm here) If you need it, buy good make-up, may be a bit more expensive, but will make you feel good as well as look good and you're worth it! Throw out all the old make-up, it does get old fast, especially the eye make-up. Get rid of everything you haven't used in the past six months. Before the purge in my bathroom, I had mascara and eye makeup that I'm sure I bought when the kids were little. (I hate throwing anything away!) I recommend getting a friend in to help with a project like this, if you can ignore the incredulous remarks like: "How long have these little pills been in here, the label says 1972!" In a few minutes your pal will have thrown out all the old stuff and you will have a lot more room in the cupboard. If you don't have a friend that is close enough to survive a bathroom purge at your house, be ruthless and throw out everything you haven't used in the past year. Spoil yourself, get some fancy soaps, remove the wrappers and display the soap in a nice glass fishbowl or basket, it will scent the air and the soap lasts longer if unwrapped. Keep your bathroom looking nice and even if the rest of the house is a mess at least your trips to the bathroom will inspire you to continue on with the rest of the house, one room at a time. :) Judy Justice Organized Forever (website in development) In the meantime check out my other website and get some tips for marketing your business online. http://www.creativepurrsuits.com |
